Save Our Oceans; We Care!
Diving, Resort & Travel Expo in Hong Kong on July 16-18, 2010

A very important Diving, Resort & Travel Expo (“DRT Show”) will take place on July 16-18, 2010 at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre (at China Resources Building in Wanchai). The DRT Show features over 110 top-level exhibitors representing leading dive equipment manufacturers, water sport equipment manufacturers, dive resorts, tourism boards and diving organizations from different countries. Over 30,000 visitors are expected to attend the 3 day event.

The marine ecosystem is under threat. In response to this, the DRT Show will be dedicating a large part of the agenda to marine conservation. The global environment is at a crossroads. With rapid population growth and the build-up of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels, many of our natural systems have been pushed to the breaking point by climate change. This is especially true to our ocean environment.

The oceans provide us with economic industries, shipping, tourism and adventure. Each of us has a collective responsibility to steward and protect our global ocean in the face of climate change and reckless human activities that degrade global marine environments. With this important subject on the agenda, the DRT Show will be a platform for educating the public about the causes, consequences and meaningful solutions to our marine environmental problems.

As part of this effort, DRT Show will be hosting seminars conducted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Underwater Association, sharing their valuable insight and works on protecting our oceans and marine life.

The DRT Show is also proud to announce that Mr Ricky Wong (Director of Hong Kong Broadband) and Dr. Elizabeth Quat will be a featured guest speaker. Dr. Quat, along with project director Michael Aw, will be discussing their involvement in the Elysium Epic expedition. The expedition which took place on 10 February 2010 was a gathering of some of the world’s best explorers, scientists, historians and image-makers to observe, document and unveil some of the great mysteries surrounding our last great wilderness, the Antarctic. One of the expeditions successful achievements was to explore the route taken by legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. On their expedition, film footage, photographs and content was collected in order to produce a documentary feature film and to publish a book in tribute to the 100th year anniversary of Sir Shackleton’s expedition. The DRT Show will be the first time exclusive sneak previews of film footage will be shown to a live audience. This will be a unique opportunity to hear Dr.Quat’s experience in the Antarctic and her thoughts on our environment.
